These last few months, talking with friend artists, I have come to the conclusion that Women in Art are still left behind their counterpart male artists. We are in 2026!!!
Most people sharing with me their enthusiasm for impressionism know about Cezanne, Renoir, Monet, Degas etc etc…
When I mentioned Mary Cassat or Berthe Morisot, they never heard of them!
I am truly appalled!
While visiting Le Louvre in June, I did not see one painting by a lady artist
So doing some research I stumbled on a discussion on the site Feminist Art Maps
The talk was about women artists in Le Louvre
Here what was said
The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in the permanent collection. I have only found 15 pieces of art currently on display by eight women. I just want that to sink in a minute. There are 15 pieces of artwork out of over 35,000 pieces. It is worsened by the fact that the pieces by women are almost entirely on the second floor, which simply does not get the same foot traffic. You can literally walk through all of the masterworks and not see a single piece of art by a woman artist.
I am glad my research took me to the National gallery. I am sharing this wonderful enlighting video about some past famous women artists…
My conclusion we must stop making a difference between Art produced by men and women
In today’s World, it is racism

I would like to add my own experience
My husband while carrying my paintings was often looked at with admiration by passing ladies. I was amused.
The funniest event was while opening my own exhibition. Again my husband was helping giving informations around while I was talking to interested visitors.
While chatting, I noticed a lady looking at my other half with an incredible admiration .
She was telling him… I do love your paintings. So beautiful.
When he replied, they are not mine but my wife who is the artist, the lady turned with a humiliated face and went away.
Conclusion. The paintings were not as good due to my gender 🤣🤣
