My brush with Picasso

It was around 1960 when arriving in my Dad’s studio, I mentioned the work by Picasso. His reaction was… Do not mention or admire this artist. Atrocious work… I was taught by my father and so as a young girl I accepted the verdict.

It was when the internet opened the door to a new discovered knowledge, I fully explored the work by Picasso who had intrigued me. He was not abstract and so we could not say…. I don’t understand his work… there was more about him.

However in 1963 while visiting relatives who had a fantastic art collection, (among all the paintings were two of Pierre Bonard!) that I met a priest who was making stained glass windows and paintings.

He asked the permission to make photos of my profile as I had a Roman face. 🤔

It is when he explained about his work, I asked him where he had been studying Art. He told me with Picasso!!! In Paris. Wow

Later, while married with small children, I visited Vallauris in the South of France where Picasso had a studio creating his marvellous pottery. I absolutely adored the designs.

In June this year, with my daughter in Paris, we visited the Picasso museum.

It was a true delight to be in front of his original works. Here are some pictures hanging in the museum

There were many striking works and ceramics. A joy to see!

It is when I returned to UK, doing more research, I found Picasso was dyslexic

I wish my father had not been so stubborn and find more about Picasso before passing judgement

You will find on this link some of his early works
